I just found out that Asif Zamir is going on an offensive to clear his name by posting on his blog here.

Look, I don't know the full truth regarding Asif Zamir. I cannot say whether he was actually a victim of identity theft. What I can say for sure is that he has been extremely dishonest with me and others over the past two years.

As I have said before, if I was a victim of identity theft, you can bet that if somebody accused me of taking their money, but not providing a good or a service in return, I would get in contact with that person to find out exactly where they sent the money to. This would lead to the culprit, or it would absolve me. Asif Zamir never did that. Why? My guess is that it is because every last person I have been in touch with is a legitimate victim.

Asif Zamir did not return calls for almost two years. I had given up hope on ever seeing my money back. The only reason I did get my money was because a detective revived the case.

3 people have their money. The rest wait. Read this whole blog and you will see the extent to which people were misled and lied to and robbed. I was contacted by somebody else again claiming to be a brand new victim so it seems to be continuing.

I have been paid back and I am being compensated by Asif. I don't know if that is coincidental with the existence of this blog. I continue to write because I was never given an honest response to why Asif Zamir did what he did. There are far too many questions about my case that simply are not anwered by this claim of 'identify theft'. Also, there are people who are not getting paid. There is a guy owed more than $4000 out there. Asif Zamir had the nerve, after not answering this poor guy for years, to ask him if he wanted to get paid in one payment or in installments!

I would like good answers from Asif Zamir. The only way that I will not believe that I escaped a fraud artist by the sheer luck of having a detective who didn't let it drop is if Asif Zamir explains himself fully and openly, my questions, my terms, not a canned post in his blog that nobody can comment on.

Crickets

So, I got another $25 payment as part of the agreed compensation from Asif Zamir. But, from what I can tell, no other victim has heard anything from Asif. The promised payments at the end of February seem not to have materialized.

Every person I have spoken to seems to be #2 or higher on the list of people to be paid, but nobody is #1.

I feel extremely fortunate to have gotten my money back, and I can only think that Asif is compensating me in order to eventually have this blog taken down. I think it might be time to bring the police in to mediate this situation.

The message is clear

Too many people still have not been paid by Asif Zamir to let him off the hook by taking down this blog. Asif has promised that people will be paid by the end of February, so let's see if that happens.

BTW, I received yet another message from a new victim. The person asked that I not go into any details about the particular case, but the sum we are talking about is significant and far more than the average.

Asif Zamir No Longer Owes me $1190: Time to take down the blog?

Long time no post. The last time I posted I had given up all hope of ever seeing my money again.

In November, I got a call from the detective handling the case for the Peel police department. He had Asif Zamir on the line. The detective demanded that he pay me in full by the following Tuesday (it was Friday). I got $190 on Tuesday, rather than $1190. The following Saturday I got $400, the Saturday after that I got $300 and finally the last $300 owed of the principal the Saturday after that.

When Asif Zamir sent the first amount he said we could discuss compensation afterwards. I suggested that it should be $415 based on interest on $1190 over 1 year and 10 months, plus a penalty for lost time, aggravation etc. He agreed, but said he will only pay me at the end of December. My response was that I didn't believe him and I wanted the compensation immediately. Since that time he has been sending me $25 per week for a total compensation of around $225 or $250 so far.

I have been in touch with the other victims and it seems that of all the people who have contacted me over the last 2 years, there are 2 others who were refunded their money in November. Most of the others have been promised repayment by the end of February.

One of the things that I said to Asif Zamir when I was trying to convince him to give me my money back was that I would take down this blog once I got my money. Asif has asked me to take it down now that we are in the compensation phase, but I would feel guilty taking the blog down because there are so many people who have not been repaid.

So, now I ask you, dear readers, what should I do?

Asif Zamir: Accused of massive fraud

Ok, I wasn't sure if I would post this, mainly because I thought it might go somewhere, but now I'm not so sure.

I was contacted by somebody who accuses Asif Zamir of having committed fraud against individuals and a church. The amount that the accuser says he and the others have lost is $450,000. I have no way of verifying if this is true, but as I have said before, if you have been a victim of Asif Zamir, contact the police in Toronto. Provide proof. File a complaint with the RCMP.

Maybe, just maybe, the police will hunt down Asif Zamir and arrest him. It is my most fervent wish that Asif Zamir spends his life hiding, looking over his shoulder and fearing eternal damnation for what he has done.

Just call them. We all know that the Peel police department doesn't care about this, but seeing as Asif Zamir scams people from the Toronto area, this is the way to go.

Thanks to Mike for checking out the listed address from the www.myacumen.com website. As I suspected it is just a PO box. Of course Asif Zamir does not have an office, he's a two-bit fraudster. Anybody who can pay a private detective can stake the place out and give your letter of demand to Asif Zamir personally. If you do that, make sure you take a picture of him.

Yes, that's right, another victim has contacted me, bilked out of almost $900 for a Nikon D80 body. That makes 13. Do you think Asif Zamir buys himself little gifts with the money that he steals, or does he live off of this income?

I have finally obtained a digitized voice recording of Asif Zamir from one of his victims. I can confirm that this is indeed his voice, and all of his other victims will surely recognize its Owen Meany-esque timbre.

What you will notice is how nice he sounds. Interesting how Asif Zamir can claim to be a Christian who is involved in homeless charities in Toronto, how he can come across as a benign well-intentioned person on the phone, and then commit acts of fraud that amount to over $30,000 (that we know of).

Asif Zamir continues to hide, to the point of having removed the word "Pickering" from his blog because it may help his victims and the police locate him.

Asif Zamir Must Be Brought to Justice

The comment in the previous post seems to indicate that Asif Zamir's whereabouts are known. If that is the case then that information would be of great use to many of us with the desire and means to seek reparations from Asif Zamir.

All I need is the information on where to find him and Asif Zamir will be flooded with lawsuits, so, if you can tell me where to send the bailiffs, I will publish it and it will be all over for Asif Zamir's career as a crook.

Ebay's Opinion? Asif Zamir is a Scammer

I haven't really emphasized this before, but when I filed a dispute on ebay regarding the Asif Zamir's failure to provide the merchandise I paid for, Asif Zamir did not respond. I then filed for compensation as a victim of fraud. Ebay investigated and found in my favour and compensated me $175 USD as a victim of fraud on ebay. $175 is the maximum amount that ebay compensates fraud victims.

So, if anybody has any lingering doubts that Asif Zamir is a crook, think about the above.

Asif Zamir: Thief, Liar

Hi All! I'm back!

There have been some developments since I've been away. There are - let's see - 4 new victims. Two victims from the usual camera equipment scam and two that Asif scammed into doing work for him to the tune of well over $20,000 and then never paid.

It looks like Asif Zamir is getting back into business and he hopes to start anew and forget his sordid little past. Of course, his business is fraud, so if the 12 of us just go away, he'll just create more victims until somebody puts a stop to it.

The good news is that the more victims we have the more interesting Asif becomes as a target of a criminal investigation. The bad news is that there are more victims.

I am amazed by how many people who were scammed 1 - 1.5 years ago still Google Asif to try to find something out about him. He obviously doesn't care about the misery that he creates, but the fact that a victim from July 2006 contacted me after Googling Asif in December 2007 shows that the psychological impact of fraud is profound.

Victims who write me have likened Asif's fraud to the most intimate of violations. I certainly feel violated, stupid and gullible. This is worse than having you house broken into; home theft doesn't involve a gross violation of trust.

Asif Zamir: The Case so Far

I will be taking a break from posting for a little while, so before I go, I want to list the case against Asif Zamir one more time, kind of a one stop shop for people who may be thinking of going anywhere near him:

1. From April 2006 to August 2007, Asif Zamir had received at least $10,000 for camera equipment for which he has provided absolutely nothing in return. This figure is what I have been able to confirm, it is very likely there are other victims of Asif Zamir out there that I don't know about. For all I know, he could have taken ten times as much.

2. Asif Zamir started soliciting "buyers" on ebay. His ebay account was suspended and then cancelled in February 2007. He has never been allowed to advertise on ebay again.

3. Asif Zamir continued to solicit money from others by email right up to July/August 2007.

4. The number of known victims is 8.

5. Despite having many email addreses, at least one of which that was known to be active as recently as October, Asif Zamir has refused to respond to any of the people from which he took money. It goes without saying that he has not taken it upon himself to contact his victims either.

6. Asif Zamir claims to be a charitable Christian. If he performs any charity, it is at the expense of his many victims. If he is a Christian, he flagrantly disregards at least 1 commandment.

7. Asif Zamir has been in hiding since July 2007. His mother claims to not know where he is. The police no longer know where he lives.

I will post again relatively soon. This will not be over for as long as Asif Zamir is not brought to justice.

Asif Zamir: Of course, he could be lying

He might not be in Pickering at all. He may be laying a false trail. Given that he has lied so much to so many people, there is really no reason to believe him when he says that he is in Pickering.

Asif Zamir Living in Pickering?

One of Asif Zamir's victims just emailed me that he has updated his blog. He has added the crime of vapidity to his repertoire.

The Banality of Evil

It seems to indicate that he has fled to Pickering. Why, you might ask, would he divulge this information? Probably so that he can claim not to be hiding and because he knows that Pickering is a big place where it would still be difficult to locate him.

The fact is that I have sent the link to this blog to his most recently used email address, known to have been used by him after I sent the link. It was also sent to him by Jakub when he found this site. Asif Zamir knows this blog exists and he knows there are people looking for him. Legally, I and the other known victims have taken every reasonable step to get in contact with Asif Zamir. He has clearly taken steps to hide from his victims and the police. This will not play in his favour.

I wonder if this guy in the wheelchair that Asif Zamir claims to have helped would have let him touch his chair if he knew Asif Zamir's record of absconding with things that he gets his hands on.

Regarding the comment on vigilantism: I agree that Asif Zamir is playing a dangerous game. It's like walking into a bar and picking a fight with a stranger, you don't know who you are facing. Of course, regardless of the fact that Asif Zamir is stealing money from honest people with families to feed, I would not wish any physical harm on him. Asif Zamir knows that the people who have contributed to his $10k++ windfall are the kinds of honest people who play by the rules. We go to the police, we try to reason with him. The police have not yet taken action in the form of finding and arresting Asif Zamir, but that does not mean they won't. I am sure that the longer this site stays up, the more people will find it and the harder it will be for the police not to act.

The next step for me is to go to the media. There are a couple of consumer advocacy segments on the local news who would be very interested in getting to the bottom of Asif Zamir's operation. I hope to make Asif Zamir famous!

Asif Zamir Strikes Again

I got an email today from a woman named Sue who paid Asif over $600 for a Canon Rebel XT and, surprise! Never saw the camera or her money again. So, we must be pushing at least $10,000 that Asif Zamir has stolen from a total of 8 people.

This blog must be getting boring in its predictability. More victims found, more money stolen and no Asif Zamir to be found anywhere.

Asif Zamir: Who is he?

I have a bit of a description of Asif Zamir's appearance from somebody who has met him face to face that I would like to share with you:

"Asif is about 5'5" give or take. Slim/small frame. Black hair, medium complexion/East Indian. Soft spoken. Wears glasses but I don't think he does all the time."

As I have mentioned before, Asif Zamir has a very particular voice. It is a high-pitched to the point that it can sound androgynous at first. As he continues to talk, however, it is clear that it is the voice of a man.

Still no sign of Asif Zamir. Still no evidence that he was a victim of identity theft. Still no proof that his ebay account was hacked. Plenty of proof that he was paid thousands of dollars by people who trusted him. Plenty of proof that, in the very best possible case, Asif Zamir does not care enough about the people he owes money to to call them. In the worst case, he has planned and executed fraud to the tune of at least nearly $10,000.

God knows what Asif Zamir is doing with all of this money. He may be hiding out in New York. His mother claims to have not heard from him for months. Riiiiiight!

By the way, I'd like more information on what Asif Zamir did in his life, what he looks like and what kinds of things he does. He still claims to be involved in missionary work, but let's face it, it would be pretty surprising to be scamming people out of thousands (and maybe tens of thousands) of dollars and also being a Christian missionary. Then again, Jim Bakker did it. Ted Haggard railed against homosexuals while getting action from a male prostitute, so I guess Asif Zamir's hypocrisy is not unheard of.
